Former Prime Minister Najib has decided to troll the ruling government over their latest “miscommunication” when Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was shocked at Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that the ECRL was cancelled due to high interest incurred.
Najib took to his official account to post the following at taking shots at the Pakatan Harapan government saying:
“Seriously, they don’t have whatsapp group.
“But since 1876 already have a phone.
“Guan Eng, this is azmin Ali’s office number: 03-88727170.
“Azmin, this is Guan Eng office number: 03-88823007
“At least phone is once in a while.”
Azmin was reported to have made a statement today that the Cabinet has decided to scrap the project during a meeting held last Thursday (24th January 2019).
“The Cabinet made the decision because the cost to develop ECRL is too high and we do not have the financial capability (to see it through) at this moment because the interest reached to nearly half a billion Ringgit.
“This is something that we can’t afford to shoulder.
“Therefore, we needed to terminate the project without jeopardising the good relationship between the People’s Republic of China and that we still welcome all forms of investment from China subjected to a case-by-case basis depending on the present country’s financial capabilities,” he was quoted by Malay Mail saying after launching and even at Silat Cekak Hanafi association.
The amount expected to be given to China Communications Construction Group Ltd. (CCCC) will be decided by the Finance Ministry, according to Azmin. He also added that the federal government has yet to decide whether to appoint a new contractor to take over the project to build ECRL at half the estimated project cost.
“As I have said earlier, we welcome all forms of investment but it will be subjected to a case-by-case basis depending on the present country’s financial capabilities.
“We always review all the new applications of new investment into Malaysia and not necessarily on ECRL alone.
“We want to maintain our Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in Malaysia coming from abroad and we want to ensure that our FDIs would be sustainable so that we can create wealth and job opportunities for the country,” he said.
A few hours after that, Lim was reported to have expressed shocked over the announcement, claiming that Azmin may not have been updated on the decision made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Datuk Seri Azmin was not in the last cabinet meeting.
“I am acting under the instruction of Tun (Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) and the cabinet,” he was quoted by NST saying.
“Sorry, I wouldn’t say that Azmin wasn’t in the cabinet meeting.
“What I meant is that he wasn’t privy to the decision made by Tun.
“Anyway a statement will be issued subject to the instruction by Tun,” he later clarified.
“I don’t want to say that as it may lead to all kind of unhealthy perception.
“All I want to say is that maybe he was not informed of the prime minister’s intention.”
