Actor Seth Rogen has decided to cease his working relationship with frequent co-star James Franco. Rogen made the decision due to multiple sexual misconduct allegations levelled against Franco, the earliest of which date back to 2018.
According to the women who accused Franco of sexual misconduct, Franco had intimidated them into sexual situations when they attended the same acting school. The allegations eventually turned into a lawsuit. This lawsuit was settled in February.
Rogen’s Comments on Franco
In an interview with British newspaper The Sunday Times, Rogen commented on the allegations. He mentioned that when the allegations first arose, he had initially decided to continue working with Franco. However, his viewpoint on the matter has since changed drastically.
“I… …look back to that interview in 2018 where I (commented) that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now,” Rogen said.
Rogen also mentioned that this scandal has not only affected their working relationship; it has impacted their once-close personal friendship as well. On this topic, Rogen added, “I don’t know if I can define that right now during this interview. (It) has changed many things in our relationship and our dynamic.” Rogen went on to note that the ordeal would have been especially gruelling and painful for those who had been victims of Franco’s actions.
Rogen concluded his interview by unequivocally stating his stance against all forms of sexual misconduct. “What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that,” he said.
Franco and Charlyne Yi
Rogen was asked to comment on his relationship with Franco following an Instagram post made by actress Charlyne Yi. In the post, Yi mentioned that she attempted to leave Rogen and Franco’s 2017 film The Disaster Artist. Yi claimed that she tried to quit her role in the film because of Franco’s predatory actions. She wrote that she “literally heard of him abusing new women (every) week.”
Yi added that Rogen enabled Franco to commit such acts because Rogen did not speak up before Franco did so. On this topic, she sarcastically questioned, “Then whose responsibility is it? The women and children who have PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) from Franco? Or the future targets of abuse?”
Prior to the allegations, Rogen and Franco had been one of Hollywood’s most iconic television and film duos. The pair had co-starred in 16 different television series and films; the first of these was the 1999 television series Freaks and Geeks.
