Former deputy minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi will not apologize to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for slandering the three-day quarantine rules for ministers.
The Umno Supreme Working Council member confirmed receiving Muhyiddin’s consumer request letter and said it was clearly an attempt to silence the prime minister’s critics.
The request letter urged Puad to post a post on Facebook dated February 9 under the name “Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi”, and give it every day for seven days for a decision.
Puad said he only asked for an explanation on the three-day quarantine rules for ministers returning from abroad as it was an issue involving the public interest.
“I do not want to be bullied by Muhyiddin like Umno was bullied,” Puad said in a post on Facebook.
“As an individual, I have the right to freedom of expression and I will not apologize or delete my Facebook post.”
Puad said he decided to fight in court because that would give him a chance with the people against “discrimination” on the issue of quarantine.
“I just questioned and asked for an explanation. If they want to sue me for this, it would be fairer if we go to court. ”
Muhyiddin sent the letter of demand last week urging an open apology from Puad and RM10 million in damages for defaming him.
