Former Prime Minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad stressed that he can return to UMNO.
However, it is only if UMNO returns to its original policy of fighting for race, country and religion.
“I can return to UMNO but with those “people”, sorry, I can not work with them,” he said.
He said this at the ‘Bersama Tun M’ program conducted by Tokoh Wartawan Negara, Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar organized by Sinar Harian on Wednesday.
He also admitted that he still loves UMNO, let alone has been president for 22 years but that love is not for his leader.
Meanwhile, the Langkawi Member of Parliament stressed that he had decided to take a break from politics after resigning as Prime Minister in 2003.
“When I resigned in 2003, I also hoped to be able to rest, maybe enjoy a little live going here and there but after a week I resigned (some) people came to ask (help).
“Tun, please do something because they think that the then Prime Minister was not doing his job well. One week alone, it looks different (his) situation.
“So they came and (next) group after group came to ask me to do something. For me, I tried the advice (of the leader involved) but the advice was not effective, ”he said.
According to him, he finally decided to leave UMNO so that it would be easy to criticize government misconduct.
“Eventually I had to leave the party (UMNO) and oppose the government (UMNO at that time),” he added.
On another development, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) has other plans to ensure that the party can still be registered with the Department of Registration of Societies (ROS).
However, Mahathir refused to reveal any of the plans.
“We have plans B and C but I do not want to reveal,” he said.
According to the former Prime Minister, his advanced age is not an obstacle to continue contributing to the country even though he now stands without a party.
“If the opt-out and not expressing an opinion, I think the future of the Malays was very dark.
“Even though I am 95 years old, I am still interested in carrying out the task that I myself left to myself. No one told me to, ”he explained.
