Najib Razak will file a suit against the country’s former attorney general.
The actor was confirmed by the former prime minister’s lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
“Yes, we will sue him on behalf of our son. Yesterday, Thomas gave an answer to our request letter…. he denied slandering our client.
“The publisher, GB Gerakbudaya Enterprise Sdn Bhd has not answered our request letter. We will file a defamation suit against Thomas and the publisher as soon as possible, ”said Muhammad Shafee.
On Feb 2, Najib, through his lawyer Shafee & Co, demanded an apology and RM10 million in damages from Thomas for defaming him in a book written by the former attorney general.
In the letter, Najib demanded a satisfactory answer from Thomas before 12 noon last Friday and stated that if Thomas fails to do so, legal proceedings will begin earlier this week.
He also demanded that the statement be clearly withdrawn from the book and a full apology for the defamation in chapter 42 under the heading “Altantuya”.
The document also states that with clear inference and satire, Thomas sent a message that he, as the attorney general and prosecutor at the time, was satisfied with the truth of the allegations of two individuals who had been convicted that Najib was involved in ordering them to kill Altantuya.
The letter also stated that the statement was clearly motivated by mala fide (malicious intent) and was in principle done for the sake of Thomas’ self-interest in seeking cheap publicity driven by his ego, profit and on the basis of sensation.
