Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today he would still appoint Tommy Thomas as the attorney general who asked the consumer to hate him.
“Tommy is one of the lawyers who hates me.
“But before I became prime minister again, Tommy came with Zainur Zakaria and Ambiga (Sreenevasan), both of whom at one time and I and Zainur suggested Tommy’s name as a country,” Mahathir wrote today in response to Thomas’ allegations in his autobiographical book, “My Story: Justice in the Desert”.
Mahathir said he was aware of the objection of the Malays when choosing Thomas and add “Malay anger peaked to me.”
But Mahathir said he was disappointed with the attorney before the French were reluctant to take action against Najib Razak on the 1MDB scandal.
“I am ready to accept criticism of the Malays. But I could not stop criticism of the Malays on the appointment of a lawyer Tommy Thomas, “he said.
Mahathir said despite being heavily attacked, he accepted Thomas’ decision to drop charges against several people for supporting LTTE militants in Sri Lanka.
“I also believe in and defend him when he criticized the Malays. His term of service is almost over. I suggest the Tan Sri award for him, ”he added.
Mahathir also revealed that PAS never demanded him to drop Thomas as the attorney general.
“But I received a lot of criticism because of him, and I think he does not need to be resumed after the service.
“But when I resigned as PM he came to see me to tell me that since I appointed him and I am no longer PM, then he also felt the need to resign.
“His writing on my resignation is great,” said Mahathir.
