Pakatan Harapan (PH) will submit three names to participate in the independent committee that will be set up to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the emergency period, said Anwar Ibrahim.
The PH chairman said the coalition had received an explanation from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Takiyuddin Hassan on the committee.
“After being given an explanation on the committee, we will submit three names today,” he said at an online press conference posted via his Facebook account.
He added that the decision was taken by his party after taking into account that the establishment was a motion submitted by the Agong.
“Three opposition MPs and four from the government are not the same as the parliamentary session, because it is a motion and the Agong’s proposal, we decided to cooperate,” he said.
He said his secretary-general, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had contacted Takiyuddin before the matter was decided.
Anwar, however, said that the committee did not have executive power but only gave more effective advice and parliamentary sessions.
Anwar, however, said that the court action taken was not to challenge the declaration of emergency but to demand a special session of Parliament.
