The Perikatan Nasional (PN) has agreed to propose the establishment of a presidential council which will be composed of all party leaders in the PN government.
According to Perikatan Nasional Secretary-General Hamzah Zainuddin, the agreement was decided in the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council (MT) meeting which took place yesterday.
Apart from the establishment of the presidential council, yesterday’s meeting also decided on the implementation of flagship programs to help the welfare of the people throughout the country.
“The MT meeting agreed to propose the formation of a Presidential Council which will be composed of all PN Nasional government party leaders as a platform to discuss government policies and strengthen cooperation between the parties.
“Besides that, the MT meeting also decided that PN will immediately implement flagship programs throughout the country to help the welfare of all levels of the people,” he said in a statement today.
The MT meeting was held to discuss preparations for the next general election (GE).
It was chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and was attended by PN deputy chairmen: PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang, Homeland Solidarity Party President (Star) Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Yong Teck Lee and Ahmad Faizal Azumu, as well as all members Another MT.
Muhyiddin who chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) yesterday said, among others, touched on several important matters including preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15).
In a post on his Facebook page, Muhyiddin said the meeting also discussed and agreed to streamline the coalition of Perikatan Nasional member parties, strengthen cooperation with parties in the Perikatan Nasional-led government and implement immediate programs to ensure the welfare of the people is maintained.
“The PN Supreme Council remains committed to expressing the aspirations of the government and the people as a whole,” he said.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, who is also PPBM president, said he had held talks with Abdul Hadi and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday on efforts to strengthen cooperation between the three parties.
PN Information Chief, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the Presidential Council was set up to enable all party presidents to contribute their views as some of the party presidents were not in the Cabinet.
He said, the establishment is also to strengthen the position of the government led by the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“At this time not all party leaders are in the Cabinet, and maybe they have their own views.
“So the Prime Minister is taking an open enough attitude to strengthen the National Alliance government and consider and it is reasonable to form a Presidential Council involving all party leaders in the government to hear their views and feedback,” he said.
