Barisan Nasional (BN) Secretary-General Annuar Musa said Umno has no choice but to cooperate with PPBM in the 15th General Election if it wants to continue with PAS in Muafakat Nasional.
The federal-provincial minister said this was because PAS insisted that Umno must also be an ally with PPBM.
In our study, Umno and PAS have their own strengths and can indeed win (in the next GE).
“But ask PAS, can PAS accept the idea of only Umno and PAS and leave Bersatu?” he was quoted as saying.
“This option does not exist. PAS adheres to the policy of Umno, PAS and PPBM must be together. ”
According to Annuar, PAS ‘stand was conveyed during the MN meeting last Wednesday.
In the last GE14, a three-cornered fight between BN, PAS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) caused the coalition led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad at that time to successfully seize Putrajaya.
This resulted in both the Malay party that has long been hostile to such talk and work together.
Cooperation between Umno and PAS succeeded in winning several by-elections after GE14.
Finally, Umno and signed cooperation in Muafakat Nasional in September 2019.
Annuar said that the Umno narrative did not receive proper treatment and respect as the largest party in the Perikatan Nasional coalition was a mere fabrication.
“That is a fictional story… Half of the Cabinet is (from) BN… What we do in government we can do, and we can take responsibility.
“But why do you want to make our story not well treated?” The question is.
Annuar said Umno had agreed to accept the Cabinet structure set up by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin when he joined the government in March.
He who is also the secretary-general of Muafakat Nasional also described Umno as trapped in a “superiority complex”, and forgot that the party was eliminated in the last GE14.
He said the decision to work with PPBM was a joint decision of Umno, in an effort to defeat PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.
On the post of deputy prime minister, Annuar said Umno should be clear on whether the demand was made to represent the party or for the benefit of certain individuals.
The question is, does Umno want Muhyiddin to break his promise not to appoint a leader who faces corruption charges in court in the government, or does he want to ignore the stand of president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to clear his name in court.
“If you do not want all that, let me know that,” he said.
