PPBM welcomes Umno’s stance to implement a political ceasefire to support the efforts of the Perikatan Nasional to help the people face the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).
Party president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said, the effort should be supported by all leaders regardless of capacity either sitting on the opposition or the government.
“This is the focus that I think all leaders should welcome and the people at this time also want the leaders to stop politics by focusing on efforts to address Covid-19, how to revive the economy and reopen employment opportunities.
“So I hope there are no more leaders who claim this, take the Yang di-Pertuan Agong time to face the government body or the like because everyone deserves to support the current government for the good of the people,” he said.
Ahmad Faizal who is also the Menteri Besar of Perak said, this is the right time for politicians to provide good services to the people for their respective roles.
“When it comes to politics, when the time comes, the Prime Minister will face the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and if Parliament is dissolved or something like that, then return to politics,” he said.
Yesterday, Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that the party is holding a political truce to ensure that the agenda to address Covid-19 and help the people who are in distress can be addressed and given priority.
Faizal also declined to comment further on Umno’s dispute over the appointment of Pengkalan Hulu State Assemblyman (ADUN) from the party as its political secretary, last week.
He said, his party did not want the comments given would disrupt the good relations between the two parties as a government in Perak.
“Things like this I do not want to comment very much because we have a good relationship. The relationship of the political party I represent, namely PPBM with Umno and PAS is also good.
“If I say anything, people will give different views, so I do not want to comment on the matter.
“I just want to convey, yesterday we had an Exco Meeting and want to focus on continuing work and providing the best service to the people,” he said.
Sabah Umno chairman Bung Moktar Radin expressed his support for Ahmad Zahid’s call for a political ceasefire to focus on the government’s efforts to address the current problem
He said, all parties need to work with the government to focus on the health and safety of the people by doubling efforts to curb Covid-19 from continuing to spread, especially in Sabah which is increasingly worrying.
Bung Moktar said that economic recovery needs to be given special attention and it requires the cooperation of all the people by stopping political disputes (political truce) and together supporting the government’s efforts to face the challenge.
“We are still struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic and the government is doing its best to ensure the health of the people by addressing the epidemic as best as possible.
“Since the Movement Control Order (PKP) was enforced, many people have been affected and the country’s economy has also been severely affected, but now there are signs of recovery.
“However, the second wave of the epidemic has a negative impact on the health and economy of the people,” he said.
