10th of May 2018, 17 security guards for the Prime Minister Office (PMO) removed RM3.5 million prior to Barisan National losing the 14th General Election.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that the RM3.5 million found was supposed to be kept in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The money was supposedly used to fund the Umno campaign for the 14th General Election.
He expressed disbelief and disappointment as the funds were taken away. He added that there are currently many bills and commitments that were incurred during the 14th General elections. There are over 222 parliament seats and 505 state seats that needs to be paid using the said funds.
He claimed that the 17 security guards had removed the RM3.5 million from the PMO. The funds were surprisingly stored outside the strong room and multiple safes. Najib Razak is also unsure as to why the monies were not stored inside the safes in the strong room. He speculated that it may be because the funds were late donations sent to UMNO.
He said that RM114 million that was confiscated during the police raid in the apartments was also from the PMO office strong room and safes that was built by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The apartments were vacant apartments linked to Najib Razak.
Reports claimed that the 17 security guards had looted the money when they were certain that Barisan National (BN) had lost the GE 14.
Najib Razak also said the money were donations that were made by multiple sources to fund UMNO’s campaign. Therefore, it should be returned to UMNO. Along with the confiscated RM114 million.
It was reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seized a total of RM 840,700 and 9 motorcycles.
