PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu insists on saying his party’s unity and strength remain untouched despite attempts made by some parties to shake its stability.
He said the majority of PPBM’s members were still loyal under the leadership of party president Muhyiddin Yassin although there were claims saying that many were persuaded to ditch the party and join the newly formed Malay-based party by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Ahmad Faizal said PPBM will be putting a lot of effort to attract new members across the nation, to join them.
“PPBM is in the middle of processing party election and this is also part of the effort to strengthen the party,” he was quoted as saying.
He also urged the party members to give endless supports toward Muhyiddin in focusing and putting efforts to take good care of people’s welfare and restoring the nation’s economy while fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Now, PPBM president is the main government’s leader. Thus, this is the time for us to give the best service to the people through the federal administration’s power.”
PPBM supreme council member Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof meanwhile said the action of those who left the party did not affect the planning for the youth wing, Srikandi wing and the party’s Annual General Assembly.
He said all party affairs would be carried out as planned with the PPBM Youth divisional conference on August 15, the Srikandi divisional conference on August 16 while the divisional conference would begin on August 22.
He said the party’s Annual General Assembly will take place on Sept 27 while the PPBM Youth, Srikandi’s annual General Assembly will take place simultaneously on Sept 26.
“If we follow the party constitution, there is no issue when a person leaves the party (even) as a Committee Member (Committee), I, as a member of the MPT will ensure that new appointments are made as allowed in the party constitution,” he said.
Mohd Redzuan, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Duties), said this when asked to comment on the party’s development due to the actions of several leaders including division heads and committee members who are believed to want to join the new party formed by Mahathir who is the former chairman and among the founders of PPBM.
He said those who acted in such a way were isolated and did not affect the survival of the party.
Another PPBM supreme council member Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff also has expressed his confidence that the phenomenon of leaving the party that is currently plaguing will not threaten the stability of the party and the Muhyiddin’s position as the president.
He said PPBM took a liberal approach and respected the decision of its former members who no longer wanted to be with the party.
He expressed his regret over the attitude of some of those who are seen trying to seek political publicity from the issue.
“Clearly, based on the United Constitution, dissolution can only happen through decisions made by MPT or through the annual general meeting (AGM).
“We have a constitution in PPBM. If a member wants and wants to leave voluntarily it is their right and they can leave. They come well so they need to come out well, “he was quoted as saying.
After Mahathir announced the formation of his new party, many division chiefs announced departure from the party.
Yesterday, a total of 16 of the 23 committee members (AJK) of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Alor Setar Division announced their resignations and left the party with immediate effect.
The matter was stated by its Division Head, Mohamad Nuhairi Rahmat who also resigned at a press conference held in Alor Setar. He claimed that 17 of the party’s 22 branch heads from PPBM Alor Setar Division had taken the same decision.
Mohamad Nuhairi also claimed that more than 900 party members in the Alor Setar Division have sent letters to leave the party so far tonight.
“Although there are 3,000 members (in the Alor Setar Division) but only a few are active… after this, there will be more who leave the party.
“As of tonight, we have received letters from them wanting to leave the party with more than 900 members,” he said.
