Secretary-general of Muafakat Nasional Anuar Musa said that the coalition has made an official invitation to PPBM to join the pact.
He said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin as PPBM president had discussed the matter for the past few months.
“I think we have officially invited, but we are not in a hurry. Each party has procedures, including bringing the proposal to the Supreme Council of their respective parties for discussion.
“We are just waiting for their decision. What is important for PPBM, Umno and PAS is that we must maintain a harmonious cooperative relationship, “he was quoted as saying.
Muafakat Nasional is a political collaboration between Umno and PAS which was established at the Ummah Unification Gathering, Sept 14 last year.
Commenting further, Annuar, who is also the Minister of Federal Territories, is confident that the matter will be resolved by the first anniversary of the cooperation.
Annuar also said that Barisan Nasional, together with Muafakat Nasional and PPBM agreed to set up a joint committee called Muafakat Nasional Plus following the Slim by-election.
He said Umno will decide the Slim State Assembly (DUN) by-election (PRK) candidate this Sunday.
He said BN Perak submitted the list of candidates for the by-election to the Umno headquarters 3 days ago.
“The Umno president will announce the names of the candidates 3 days before the nomination day on August 15,” he said.
Previously, PPBM Perak confirmed that it will give way and full support to Umno to contest in the by-election.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said PAS is in line with Umno to strengthen the Muafakat Nasional and at the same time defend the Perikatan Nasional government led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said that PAS agreed with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s assertion that Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS MPs would continue to support the current government.
“PAS is confident that the leadership led jointly by the party that supports PN will continue to provide the best service as well as submit new offers that are more beneficial to all people of various races without exception,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier today, Zahid, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk, said that Umno did not join PN but would empower Muafakat Nasional with PAS and the Barisan Nasional component.
He at the same time handed over to the MN Main Committee to consider PPBM’s intention to further strengthen the cooperation for the benefit of the people and the country.
