Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin has clarified that she is not a member of PPBM yet, saying that she needs to go through a certain process first.
She said the 11 former MPs who left PKR in February have to wait until the party’s elections to settle first. She added that they can only go through the process to join the party after that.
“Technically as I said, as in a group, not yet. We are still determining the method that will be used to join (party).
“We are waiting for their party elections to end and also their AGM (Annual General Meeting and General Assembly),” she was quoted as saying today.
She said they are waiting for the right time to submit the membership form.
Last February, a group of 11 PKR MPs declared themselves as independent, leaving PKR and leaving Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form an independent bloc in the Parliament.
Apart from Zuraida, they include former PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azmin Ali; Indera Mahkota MP,Saifuddin Abdullah; Selangau MP Baru Bian and Bandar Tun Razak MP Kamaruddin Jaffar.
Apart from that are Nibong Tebal MP Mansor Othman; Batu Pahat MP Rashid Hasnon; Segamat MP Dr Santhara Kumar and Saratok MP Ali Biju.
The other two MPs are Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin and Ranau MP Jonathan Yasin.
Commenting further, Zuraida said, all PKR MPs who left the party are now placed ‘PPBM’ logo in their party status in the Dewan Rakyat.
Zuraida also denied that he would form a new party because it was impractical to face the 15th general election (GE15).
“In this short time, I think it is impractical for us to form a new party because at least 3 years will be at the latest.”
Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional women MPs have expressed their supports toward Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said as the new deputy speaker of Dewan Rakyat.
The joint statement was signed by Perikatan Nasional women MPs such as Titiwangsa Member of Parliament, Rina Harun (PPBM) who is also the minister of women, family and community development; Parit Sulong Member of Parliament, Noraini Ahmad (Umno) who is also the Minister of Higher Education; Rantau Panjang Member of Parliament, Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS) who is also the deputy minister of women, family and community development; Ampang Member of Parliament, Zuraida Kamaruddin who is also the minister of housing and local government; and Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Nancy Shukri (UN) who is also the minister of tourism, arts and culture.
Zuraida said Azalina is the first woman to be appointed to the post, describing it as “historic”, “meaningful”, and “positive” for the country.
“We, the Women MPs from PN saw Azalina’s appointment on time, as she herself has a professional background as a lawyer. He even handled Parliamentary affairs while serving as the chairman of the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus, “she said.
Zuraida said Azalina, who was once a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, had proven her credibility.
“It will not only elevate the dignity of women in the country but also be the best example and inspiration for all women,” he said.
Azalina was appointed as the new deputy speaker after the motion was tabled by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
