Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has expressed his disagreement against the use of a new logo for Perikatan Nasional’s coalition in the 15th general election.
He said there would not be enough time to explain it to the people if the coalition decides to use an unfamiliar logo.
“How to present it to the party, whether to do it at the Muafakat Nasional level only in the peninsula or Perikatan Nasional to be registered publicly, but from my view, negotiations and decisions must be based on the interests of the party.
“I disagree, that this is because Umno is a big and long-standing party. We must take care of the interests of the party well, to negotiate properly. Do we have time to create a new icon in these 5 months, what’s the picture?
“Don’t trouble yourself, if you want to trap yourself, do something that is acceptable to everyone. I don’t know what the new symbol is gonna be like, imagine a picture of a banana tree, will people say that it is crazy? Five months to go around the country, this is something to look forward to,” he was quoted as saying.
The former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, said it would be better for PN to be a loose coalition, but polish or rebrand the existing party or party coalition.
Mohamad also called for the 15th general election to be held in the near future due to the weaknesses and discomforts of the current opposition parties that would enable them to enjoy the people’s mandate comfortably.
“PN is a government with a thin majority, it is difficult for the government to present policies in Parliament as it is always under threat.
“So, how is the government going to work? As a party representing the government, I say Muhyiddin has no choice. “
Mohamad who is better known as Tok Mat does not deny that Muhyiddin’s popularity is well received by the people today, but his popularity will not last long just like what the previous Pakatan Harapan government experienced.
“Based on my observation, during this time where things get chaotic, do not wait until the enemy becomes stronger.
“The time of the enemy is weak, it’s time for us to take a chance. When they are strong, it will be a problem for us. “
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional and PAS leaders, together with parties from Sabah and Sarawak have pledged their loyalty with the Perikatan Nasional government led by prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin for the sake of political stability and people’s welfare.
The agreement was raised in a meeting among the Perikatan Nasional leaders (Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, MCA president Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Vigneswaran and PPBM secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.
