Umno Supreme Council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has pledged his loyalty to his party despite accepting a position in the government-linked companies (GLCs).
He said there was no way Umno members would jump to another party (PPBM) for the sake of accepting the offer.
He said, such a claim made by a certain individual saying that the political appointments among Umno leaders into the government-linked companies were a tactic used to attract Umno leaders to join PPBM, are merely just a desperate statement.
“Not really. I am one of those who was given my GLC position, I am still with Umno, no matter what happens I am Umno people and I will defend Umno.
“Cooperation with PPBM, PAS, and others in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, we are still working together for the time being.
“But to jump from one party to the other, for Umno people, I don’t think so,” he was quoted as saying.
PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman recently claimed that the political appointment among Umno members was used to expand and lure them to join PPBM.
He was it was revealed by the leadership in his party, as they tried to convince the others than PPBM won’t be left behind in the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
This is due to PPBM’s plan to be a dominant party. He said they were planning to escort those (Umno people) who might seem to be easy and attracted to join PPBM through political appointments.
According to him, that is how PPBM planned to expand by recruiting more leaders from Umno.
Tajuddin said Syed Saddiq was really desperate for making such a statement. “That is a desperate statement, for Syed Saddiq. That is not right and I don’t think so.”
Meanwhile, Marzuki Yahaya said the two Penang Assemblymen who have expressed support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) have not asked for views on the positions offered to them by the federal government.
Marzuki said Bertam assemblyman Khalid Mehtab Ishaq and Teluk Bahang assemblyman Zolkifli Md Lazim had shifted their stance despite expressing their support for Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow when PPBM announced its departure to be out of Pakatan Harapan (PH) in March.
“They have chosen to prioritize their positions rather and leave the people’s mandate,” he said.
He was referring to Khalid’s appointment as Chairman of the Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda), an agency under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Meanwhile, Zolkifli was appointed as a member of the advisory committee of Mara Corp Sdn Bhd, which is a branch of Mara’s investment.
Marzuki said they both forgot that their cooperation with the PH in the 2018 general election brought them the victory until they were elected representatives.
Now, five Penang assemblymen now supporting the opposition, including two from Umno and one from PAS, while another 35 assemblymen supported the government (PH).
Marzuki said PPBM in Penang is still PH friendly.
“I have nothing to say, but as the Penang state chairman, I will always adhere to the principles that we have with Pakatan Harapan.
“The fact that they have accepted the positions and declared themselves as the opposition in Penang is their own decision,” Marzuki said.
