PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has praised the previous Pakatan Harapan government for its effort to implement institution reform, saying that they have done far better compared to Perikatan Nasional and Barisan Nasional.
He said Pakatan Harapan leaders have done many things when it comes to introducing institution reform.
However, he admitted that the coalition could have done more when they took over Putrajaya in the past 22 months before its tragic collapse in February.
“Our weakness is that we delayed a few promised decision which we should have fulfilled before.
“Also, people’s worries and concerns especially those who feel they were not getting sufficient protection,” he was quoted as saying.
However, Anwar said it was something that could be compared with Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional because Pakatan Harapan was a government that started the reform better than the previous ones.
He said Barisan Nasional was often associated with corruption practices before this and the lack of freedom in the judiciary and academic.
“We are not happy with the political coup, betrayal of the Perikatan Nasional.
“We think that Perikatan Nasional is more dangerous because of their work in the state of unemployment which has reached hundreds of thousands, prices of goods and inflation increased.
“What do they do? They distribute wealth and power to each of them.”
He said, it was ugly and damage the system and leadership’s thinking.
Therefore, he said Pakatan Harapan was inspired to return to power, so it could continue its struggle to improve the country.
“What will we fight for? We are able to bring change because of our determination to do something better.”
He said Pakatan Harapan is rejecting corruption. “We will be using our power to power up our people.”
Pakatan Harapan government collapsed in February after the then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned, followed by PPBM’s sudden departure quitting the coalition after that.
Led by current prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, together with Barisan Nasional, PAS and parties from the peninsular (GPS, STAR, PBS), they formed a new government.
Pakatan Harapan is now left with PKR, Amanah, DAP and supported by Warisan in Sabah.
Meanwhile, former minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Saifuddin Nasution has urged the Perikatan Nasional government to refer to what has been done by the Pakatan Harapan government previously in curbing the price increase for goods.
According to him, Perikatan Nasional did not continue the methods used by Pakatan Harapan before which he said has caused an increase for the price of daily necessities.
He said the current government set the period for price control of the goods involved for only 15 days compared to Pakatan Harapan, setting the period for 30 days.
He said among the obvious price hike in the market were the chicken, beef and eggs. He said many people were complaining about the rapid increase especially with holiday seasons around the corner.
He said Perikatan Nasional should review the number of goods and the duration of the price controls as well.
With the current Covid-19 outbreak, he said people were losing jobs and their income. “Now they have to worry over the price hike, for Raya preparation.
“What people want and hope from the government is to extend the period of control and increase the number of goods.”
