Former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has accused PAS of breaching its promise to let him lead the state government until the end of his term.
According to Mukhriz, who resigned yesterday, the agreement was made after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan administration at the federal level, which led to a change of government in several states.
“I decided to maintain my cooperation with Pakatan Harapan in Kedah.
“Kedah PAS leadership has also given their assurance that they will not demand PH assemblymen to join them and agreed that I will continue to serve as Menteri Besar until the end of the term.
“Their demand was that only for the state government not to treat them as an opposition, instead, wanted to be given an extra allocation for PAS and Umno state service centers.”
Mukhriz stepped down as Menteri Besar yesterday after not getting sufficient majority to maintain his position.
He also claimed former prime minister Najib Razak as the mastermind as to why he lost the position for the second time.
“Although the directive to bring me down came from the PPBM president through Hamzah Zainuddin (PPBM Secretary-General), the real protagonist is still the same person as Najib Razak.
“His purpose is nothing more than to free himself from 1MDB’s breach of trust, SRC International, and many other mega scandals that defame Malaysia in the world.”
Mukhriz, who is also Jitra assemblyman, said the money laundering involving Reza Aziz, the son of Rosmah Mansor, who had been released, could have saved other criminal cases involving others including Umno members.
“Perhaps the release is a signal of the criminal case faced by Najib, Rosmah, Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi and other Umno accused.”
Jeneri assemblyman Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor from PAS, who has been appointed as the new Kedah Menteri Besar, has denied Mukhriz’s claim that PAS had broken their promise to give him support.
“(At that time) I went to him to express his support for (Mukhriz) to continue as the chief minister.
“It was so that he could fix the (political) clashes which were detrimental to the people. But it became worse.
“So what happened today,” Sanusi said.
He expressed his hope that the opposition would continue to give good cooperation for the benefit of Kedah people.
He gave his assurance that the new administration would be fair to all.
He was sworn in before Sultan Sallehuddin at the Sultan’s office in Wisma Darul Aman yesterday.
Sanusi is replacing Mukhriz who is Jitra assemblyman after Sultan Sallehuddin found that the PPBM deputy president, who resigned today, lost the majority support after interviewing all 36 assemblymen in the state.
He had previously claimed that he had the support of 23 elected representatives including 4 from PPBM and 2 former PKR to form a new state government.
In February, Malaysia witnessed a political turmoil that led the PH government to fall following PPBM President Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to pull the party out of the coalition.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned as prime minister and Muhyiddin was appointed as the eighth prime minister.
The move also led to the exchange of previously governed states by Pakatan Harapan, namely Johor, Perak and Malacca.
