Two PKR assemblyman have announced their departure from the party today, clarifying themselves to be independent and pledged their supports to prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Sidam MP Dr Rober Ling Kui Ee and Lunas MP Azman Nasrudin said the decision was made after considering any possibilities.
“I, Azman, with Robert are announcing around departure from PKR and will give full support to the prime minister.
“We will be serving our constituency as independent assemblymen,” he was quoted as saying today.
They clarified that they were no longer “PKR assemblymen”.
After the announcement was made, Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir now has 17 states legislative assemblies while Perikatan Nasional manages to secure 19 seats in the state.
Ling said that he lost his confidence in PKR which was led by president Anwar Ibrahim.
He said ever since Anwar took over the party after the 14th general election, he said, it became worst with the existence of several camps within the party.
“The party has worsened under his leadership after 2018, now the party splits into many, and half of Azmin Ali and Zuraida Kamaruddin’s leadership were fired and left the party.
“So today, I am announcing my resignation as PKR Sungai Petani division chief with immediate effect. This resignation also will involve 2 out of 3 branches and committee of Sungai Petani AMK.”
Previously, Kedah PAS Commissioner Ahmad Yahaya said the changes in Kedah could not be avoided anymore. He claimed that Pakatan Harapan has lost its majority in the state.
He said his party would be ready to administer Kedah.
Mukhriz, who is also PPBM’s deputy president, retained the PH government in Kedah despite the party’s drop out from the Pakatan Harapan coalition to form Perikatan Nasional along with BN, PAS, GPS, and independent representatives.
Meanwhile, PAS Election Director Muhamad Sanusi Md Nor said that Perikatan Nasional has a simple majority, enough for them to form a new state government.
He also claimed that 23 assemblymen including four from PPBM have declared no-confidence against Mukhriz’s leadership.
“23 state assemblymen have lost confidence in the leadership of Mukhriz as Kedah Menteri Besar.
“15 (PAS) assemblymen, two from BN and two former PKR members who had left the party this afternoon and four from PPBM.
“With that, the Kedah PH government collapsed and lost the legitimacy of power as the Kedah state government came into power immediately.
“Thus, in agreement with 19 out of the 23 Assemblymen that present today, they have agreed to form a new Kedah state government on behalf of the PN government.”
